Second Hand Tack Sale September 2015
For an early start, everyone was in very good form at the first Fernhill second hand tack sale. There was a huge variety in items to buy - everything from brand new zebra print rugs to beautiful hand crafted leather saddles.
It's a great excuse to clear out all of the old tack and riding gear you have a t home. Let's face it - anyone with horses will have plenty of items to trade or sell.
If you're interested in having a table at our next sale, please use the contact page to register your interest.
If you're intersted in buying, drop us line, and we'll add you to our mailing list for upcoming events.
Thanks as always to the team who help to make the events run so smoothly. Through Wendy's cake sale, the tea and coffee and various items of second hand tack that were sold, we managed to raise a very impressive £220 which will be donated to the Household Cavalry and St Catherines Hospice.

Summer BBQ September 2015
As typically happens in the South East, you plan for a warm sunny day, and you're really lucky and get a dry cold one. Such was the Sunday we held our annual Fernhill BBQ. A lovely turn out, all wrapped up in jumpers and warm socks, braving the Autumn afternoon to enjoy home made chilli, burgers and sausages and a beautiful array of cakes, kindly and lovingly made by Wendy.
Max and Mandy did the cooking, whilst Lola, Pudding, Mollie and Betsy (the dogs) all ran round playing, providing the entertainment.
As usual, we held a raffle - some great prizes were won - and raised an amazing £100 which we donate to The Brooke Hospital for Sick Animals.

Lecture Demonstration - Sunday 5th October 2014
Report prepared by Natalie Hazeltine, BHSAI
The Aiding System
Training your horse requires a partnership, and in order to ensure clarity, it is important that you as the trainer understand the different parts of the aiding system and how to be able to use them as a combination for more advanced movements.
This session aimed to arm all levels of trainer/rider with the knowledge required to progress the horses training. We used horses and riders to demonstrate different applications of the aiding system culminating in an audience request session where Jane demonstrated the correct application and result, using Fernhill Lantana, who is competing at advanced level.
Natalie reports..
The aiding system lecture demonstration was a well attended, superbly presented and very educational afternoon.
Seeing the different levels of horse and rider and listening to Jane explain exactly what is happening is, for me, and I am sure everyone else, the best learning experience by far.
Although the levels of horses and riders vary, the basics are very much the same as shown on this afternoon.
During the lecture demo, the aiding system was broken down and explained in depth. The notes supplied were great as one can refer back to them as often as necessary. For me, it reiterates the fact that the horse is a very powerful tool and if understood and worked correctly it can give the most amazing feelings and, if one has an open mind, one can never stop learning new information or experiencing new feelings.
I have personally known and worked for Jane for over 17 years and have so much respect for her. She is an understanding and very knowledgeable instructor and I cannot recommend her enough.
I look forward to the next lecture demo and would highly recommend attending.

BBQ News
Thanks to everyone who came to our Summer BBQ, and of course a huge thank you to everyone who contributed by cooking or baking for the day. I don't think I have ever eaten so much pudding in my life! Totally delicious! Thanks also to all those who donated prizes for the raffle. We raised an incredible £100 for the Brooke Hospital - so thank you to all who bought tickets! Watch out for the next Fernhill social event, it's bound to be fun!
August 2014
Bertie Wooster, owned by Anne Taylor, has just started competing with Jane at Medium level in his dressage career. During August he won 5 out of his 8 tests with very respectable percentages including one at 69.9%. This has now qualified him for the Petplan Festival in Essex next month. It also qualifies him for the British Dressage Regionals which will be held next year.
Meanwhile, Fernhill D’Artagnan has also just started competing in dressage again with Jane. Because of his problems coping with stress, he was put straight into Medium level with the idea that the more he had to do and think about, the more confident and relaxed he will become. This obviously worked for him as he managed to win both his first 2 tests last week with 62% and 65.5%, which is very promising.

April 2014
Well done to Jane Edwards and Bertie Wooster who qualified for the Petplan Semi Finals at Hartpury in April, however unfortunately had to withdraw due to rider ill health. Hopefully will qualify again next year.
September 2013 - Fernhill Celebrates the end of Summer 2013!
Thanks to all who made our BBQ/Rib Lunch a success. Over 50 friends, riders and long suffering non horsey partners helped to support a fabulous afternoon.
Delicious food (special thanks to Mandy who prepared racks and racks of ribs, and to Wendy for manning the BBQ and making her fabulous puddings ). Wonderful wine and glorious weather!
The horses appeared to enjoy the Party too. They were delighted to be the centre of attention and the occasional carrot or mint went down a treat!
Here's looking forward to Fernhill BBQ 2014.

AM Dressage Trip September 2013
Recipe for Success!
3 Horses
1 Grand Prix Schoolmaster
3 Riders
1 Mother/Groom/Coffee Maker
1 Dog
2 Horse boxes
Add 2 days of lessons at AM Dressage in Gloucestershire with one evening of a champagne dinner and you have the perfect horsey getaway.
Myself, Kathryn, Lauren and Wendy not forgetting my faithful companion Pudding, had a wonderful two days at Adam Kemp’s (FBHS) yard despite the wind and rain! Lantana, Bertie Wooster and Spotty were the three lucky horses who we took with us. I had wonderful rides on Tana and Bertie with Adam and Kathryn too had a brilliant ride on Spotty with Adam.
Lauren bravely had a go on their Grand Prix Schoolmaster Wizzard and had an amazing ride getting a feel for Passage and half-passes. Whilst Wendy was busy videoing, making coffee and raising morale with Mars Bar cakes and rocky road slices. It was also Pudding’s first major trip away in the horse-box and she had a wonderful time making friends with all the visiting dogs. We hope to return again soon to AM Dressage as we always have a fantastic and memorable time.

August at Oldencraig
Congratulations to Kathryn Diprose and Norring’s Triumph (aka. Spotty) for winning their first outing at Oldencraig on Saturday, 31st August, qualifying for the unaffiliated championship. Kathryn was very pleased with him as he behaved impeccably considering it was his first competition for many years and she was very grateful to his owner Ann Taylor for allowing her to take him. Hopefully this will be one of many wins to come.
